Cyclone?
Has anyone else been wondering what hit Myanmar/Burma lately? Personally, I am not at all sure what a "Cyclone" is. Typically, every explanation is vague, or so detailed as to be useless.
But I finally found one. Its a hurricane. All the names are regional, but they are the same sort of storm:

I kinda knew that. Cyclone is a hurricane in other parts of the world. But I think I only knew that because a similar thing came up a few years ago. Weird.
Here's a question. . . the hurricanes we always see in the south east US always spin, I believe, in a counter clockwise direction when viewed from above. Do hurricanes in the southern hemisphere spin the same way, or in the opposite direction? Hmmmm
Apparently, yes. Found that out also when I got the list of definitions.
But I generally knew about the Coriolis effect for... some reason. Just something that stuck in my head.
Don't the little whirlpools that you seen at the bathtub drain as it swirls downward also go in the opposite direction on the other half of the planet? Weird.
